DEWA EV Charger Types, Costs, and Usage Details

First, take a look at the Dubai EV charging cost and charger types, as these details have a significant impact on where you can recharge your EV and how much you need to pay for it. Understanding the various charger types and their associated fees is crucial for efficient EV ownership in Dubai.

Charger Types:

DEWA’s EV charging stations in Dubai offer four (4) types of chargers, which include Ultrafast Charger, Fast Charger, Wall-Box, and Public Charger.

1. Ultrafast Charger: 150 kW DC with Type 2 Socket.

2. Fast Charger: Most of these are inst alled at petrol stations.

• 43 kW AC with Type 2 Socket.

• 50 kW DC ChadeMO and Combo CCS Sockets.

3. Wall-Box: 22 kW AC with single Type 2 Socket.

4.  Public Charger: 2 x 22 kW AC with double Type 2 Socket.

Costs:

• AC chargers (Wall-Box and Public Chargers): AED 0.70/kWh + 5% VAT (some free until end of 2025 (e.g., ENOC with Green Wash package)).

• DC chargers (Fast Charger 50kW DC and Ultrafast Charger 150kW DC): AED 1.20/kWh + 5% VAT & Tesla Superchargers ~AED 1.25/kWh via Tesla app.

• Ultra-Fast Charger (150kW DC): AED 7.61/30 min for DC Fast Chargers at select locations.

• Tesla Superchargers: Prices typically average around AED 1.25/kWh and are managed directly via the Tesla app.

• Registration with DEWA:  

• Individual (non-commercial) and Business (commercial): AED 500.

• Government: No security deposit.

• EV Green Charger Card delivery: AED 20.

Usage Details:

1. Plug in First: Always plug one end of the charging cable into your vehicle and the other into the charging station before initiating the session via the app, card, or QR code.

2. Stop Correctly: Stop charging sessions through the app, card, or QR code before unplugging the cable.

3. Indicator Lights: Generally, a green light indicates the charger is ready, a blue light means charging is in progress, and a red or yellow light indicates an error. 

Note: Forcefully removing the cable can damage both your vehicle and the charging station. In case of a charging error, contact DEWA customer care.

How to Use Dubai EV Charging Stations:

DEWA offers flexible options for charging your EV for both registered users and guest users. The usability differs in several aspects for different user types.

For Registered Users:

Registered EV users with DEWA can enjoy several convenient ways to initiate and end their charging sessions. Here are some of the most convenient ones:

DEWA Smart App:

1. Open the DEWA Smart App on your smartphone.

2. Scan the QR code displayed on the EV Green Charger station.

3. Log in with your UAE Pass or DEWA Online User ID.

4. Select your EV account and follow the on-screen instructions to start charging.

5. Follow the End Charge prompts on the app to stop charging.

Without DEWA Smart App:

1. Scan the QR code on the EV Green Charger station with your smartphone camera. It directs you to the Green Charger details page in your browser.

2. Log in with your DEWA Online User ID or UAE Pass and follow the same steps as above.

EV Green Charger Card: 

1. Tap your EV Green Charger Card on the card reader located on the station.

2. Follow any on-screen instructions that appear on the charger's display.

3. Tap your card on the reader again to stop charging.

For Non-Registered Users/Guests:

1. Scan the QR code on the charging station with your smartphone camera.

2. Select Continue as a Guest on the login page.

3. Fill in the required form: your full name, email ID, mobile number, and EV plate number.

4. Verify your email address using the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to you.

5. Choose your preferred charging package & make payment.
